Hi Laura, and thanks for bringing your question to planDisney. It sounds like you’re going to have a rootin’ tootin’ good time with your pup at
Fort Wilderness in September! I stayed in one of the
cabins with my friend’s dogs and it was one of my favorite Disney trips. The only thing better than being at Disney World is sharing the experience with our pets!
First, let's talk about requesting a specific loop or site. You can absolutely add a request to your reservation by calling the
Disney Resort Hotel Reservations phone number. While it’s not guaranteed, Cast Members will do their best to grant your wish! I added a request to my reservation when I wanted a campsite near one of the rivers.
Now, let's talk about where your pup can go at Fort Wilderness! In my experience, dogs are allowed in most areas, including on the
golf carts. We had plenty to explore when we were there with my friend’s pups. The official policy is that
dogs aren’t allowed in Food & Beverage locations, Club Lounges, Pool Areas, and Fitness Centers. In addition, I don’t believe dogs are generally allowed at
Tri-Circle-D Ranch, so you’ll probably have to leave your pup at your campsite before heading over to visit. I do recommend checking out the stable near the Settlement area because that’s where the horses live that you see trotting down Main Street, U.S.A.! You’ll also find a beautiful piece of Disney history there—the Dragon Calliope, a horse-drawn musical instrument from a 1950s parade at Disneyland Park.
One more thing--
Chip ’n’ Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long is always a must-do when I’m at Fort Wilderness, but I haven’t been able to get a definitive answer on whether dogs are allowed. Many years ago I saw some furry friends at the event, but other times I’ve seen dogs turned away. When you’re there, I’d check with the Bike Barn to confirm the current policy.
Now, there is a spot at Fort Wilderness made just for Mickey’s canine guests! That’s Waggin’ Trails Dog Park, which has two fenced areas, one for smaller pups and a second for larger ones. It’s the practically perfect spot for your dog to meet some new friends. There are also poop bags, a water bowl, and even a hose in case your pup has a little too much fun in the dirt!
I hope you and your dog have a magical stay at Fort Wilderness in September! And if you have any other questions before then, we’d love to have you back at planDisney.
