I have just booked our 19th trip to Disney to celebrate our son's graduation from Georgetown and admission to Law school! We have been many times before, but this is my first visit after a celiac diagnosis and I'm nervous about dining.

Hi, Kathy! Food is such a big part of vacation, and it can be stressful having to worry about an issue like celiac when you want to be having a good time. And a son starting law school - that's really something to celebrate! Just surviving those LSATs is a huge deal.

In my experience, no one is as helpful at accommodating Special Dietary Needs as Walt Disney World. To start, browse the menus on the Walt Disney World dining page, which will show what is generally available at any of the restaurants. If you are making table service reservations, online or by calling 407-939-3463, indicate on your reservation that you have celiac. This gives the restaurant a heads up that you may require assistance from a member of the culinary staff to talk about what you need in terms of dietary accommodations.

When you arrive at a restaurant, inform them as you check in and again with your server of your celiac, and they can make sure it has been noted and someone has been made aware. If you've looked at the menu at determined that something needs to be adapted so you can eat it, they are absolutely prepared to have someone come to your table to further discuss your requirements.

Most table service locations and quick service locations have allergy friendly menus, so don't be afraid to ask for them. The big key for you is to just let people know what you need. They are as accommodating as they can be.

I hope you have a wonderful time eating your way around the world! I think you may find even some of your pre-diagnosis favorites are still dining options for you!
