Hi, I have just booked to stay at PO riverside in May 2011 and wondered how strongly you would recommend dining reservations and when I should do them? Also, where are the best places to go for breakfast and what are the breakfasts like at the hotel? many

Hi Jo!  That's a great question, and I would highly recommend dining reservations.  It is so nice to know that when you arrive you will have times that you can simply, sit, relax and enjoy a wonderful meal.  Yes, I do my fair share of grabbing a burger for a quick bite, but I truly would not plan a WDW vacation without ADRs.
You will be able to make your ADRs 180 days before your arrival.  These reservations can be done on-line or by calling 407-WDW-DINE.  I personally prefer calling and if that is your choice, make sure you call right at 7 AM EST.  Popular dining reservations will go quickly.
Now onto breakfasts.  I love a good breakfast and a few of my favorites are at Crystal Palace (also a character dining experience) located at the MK and Kona and O'Hana at the POLY.  If you have a princess and are wanting to dine at Cinderella's Royal table, I love the breakfast they serve there as well.  As far as breakfasts at your resort, POR offers everything from cereal and fruit to pancakes and sausage.  I have always found the food at that particular resort to be quite good.
I hope this helps and that you have a wonderful WDW vacation next May.  If you have any more questions while planning, please come back and visit us here at the Mom's Panel.
