Aloha, Jill! We welcome you to our planDisney ohana. I'm so excited for you to stay at
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort; the newly reimagined Moana-inspired guest rooms are gorgeous! This resort is a magical oasis (especially in the middle of winter), and you're smart to schedule some time to enjoy it. You'll be enjoying those island vibes in no time!
Even though the theme parks are the main highlight of a Walt Disney World Resort vacation, I always advise guests to spend a little R&R time at their resort. All Walt Disney World Resort hotels have daily activities, so make sure to ask for a Recreation Activity Calendar from the front desk when you check-in. While the schedule varies by month, when we last stayed there in December, there were Lawn Games during the day and an "Aloha After Dark" glow-in-the-dark nighttime party on the Great Ceremonial House Lawn. If you're looking for a nice way to unwind and end your day, the
Movies Under the Stars are shown several nights a week. However, one of my favorite activities is the
Campfire held on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 5:00-6:00 PM on the Polynesian beach with a view of the Seven Seas Lagoon (free, unlimited marshmallows are provided, and S'mores kits are available for purchase). If your Mouseketeers are into crafts, guests can enjoy activities for an additional fee. Some typical projects include Mickey Tie Die shirts, designing and creating your own Kukui Nut Lei, and a make-your-own Tiki Mask.
Although the Walt Disney World pools are heated to 82 degrees year-round, the water may feel a little chilly in February. We like to vacation in the winter months, but the temperature can be unpredictable at that time of year. We often luck out and get at least one 75-degree day suitable for swimming. Since it is usually snowing at home, I love hanging out by the
Lava Pool on a sunny day with a frosty drink in hand, no matter the temperature! Every day from 3:00-4:00 PM, there is a Pool Party with music and dancing. And you can usually find me soaking in the hot tub, which has an infinity edge that looks out to the lagoon.
Of course, no trip to the Polynesian Resort would be complete without a trip to the
Pineapple Lanai, located just outside the Great Ceremonial House. I like to grab a Dole Whip in the evenings and head to one of the swings on the beach to watch
Disney Enchantment (get there early to ensure a good spot). They pipe in the music, and the best part is no park ticket is needed- and it's a quick walk back to your room!
Now you can see why I love staying at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, Jill. As Moana says, "It calls me!" I hope you have a great time. A hui hou (until next time)!
