Only category 2 and 3 are available using the Disney Dining Plan at the 5pm and 7.15pm shows on a first come first served basis, Category 1 seating may be booked on the DDP at the 9.30pm show. A few years ago I dined at the HDDR and I was on the DDP, we had category 3 seating upstairs and we found it to be a great view, the actors even came upstairs to interact with us too. So I think you will have a fantastic time sitting in category 2 especially if your family wouldn't be happy to get pulled up on stage, the actors really do interact with ALL tables where ever they are located. Saying that though you could end up seated upstairs, which although I think is great you may be disappointed with so if sitting downstairs is very important to you then yes I would advise you to pay out of pocket for the category 1 seating. Have a great trip, Jo
