Booked my first cruise ever for February 2014 with my daughter and we are super excited. I have been hearing conflicting answers regarding passports onboard. Some have said they get taken away once we board and get them when we get off. Is this right?

    Ahoy Tina!
Your mother/daughter sailing will be a vacation that you will always cherish, and the memories you create will be just priceless!  I know it will be an amazing high seas journey for the two of you!
When you check-in at the port, you will present your passports to the castmember taking care of you.  Once the castmember has checked you in, you will keep your passport with you until you need to present it to U.S. Customs upon your return to the port.  When my family cruises, we place our passports in our in-room safe because you will not need them ashore. You will only need your Key to the World card and a photo ID (Guests over 18).   I do recommend copying your passport before leaving home and keeping the copy with you when you venture off the ship in the various ports of call.
I hope my answer clears up any confusion, Tina.  Please write back if you think of any additional questions.
    Have a magical day!
