I booked character dining at CRT, Chef Mickey's, and Akershus. We want to dine at Sci-Fi drive in, Coral Reef Inn, TRex café, etc, but I don't want my entire vacation to be planned. Is it difficult to get seated at such places without reservations?

    Hi Erin,

The short answer to your question is "yes" it can be difficult to get into many Walt Disney World restaurants without a reservation. However, it really depends on what time of year you're visiting and what time you want to eat. Trying to get a table at 6:00pm Christmas week without a reservation will be virtually impossible anywhere on property, but you'll likely be able to walk in to many places at 8:00pm during the first week in October.

You're absolutely correct to reserve the character meals. Those fill up most quickly. As for the other restaurants on your list, I would also make reservations for any of them that you consider "must dos." Remember, if you feel like you're overwhelmed with dining while you're on vacation, you can always make cancellations during your trip, up to 24 hours in advance for most restaurants. If you'd like to try your luck as a walk-up, then plan to get to the restaurant as early as possible. In many cases, you'll be able to get a seat at 5:00, but you might see no availability at all if you arrive at 6:00.

Of the restaurants you've mentioned, in my personal experience the Sci-Fi is the one that's most difficult to get as a walk-in. The unique themeing makes it quite popular and it does tend to have very long waits.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
