We are booked for an April cruise (first ever cruise) on the Magic leaving on my son's actual 5th birthday and were wondering if it is worth the extra expense to have passports instead of just govt ID and birth certificates? Thanks in advance!

    Ahoy Chris!
Congratulations on your first magical voyage onboard Disney Cruise Line!  Celebrating your son's special day on the Magic will make this the most magical birthday yet!  Be sure to stop by Guest Services upon boarding to pick up a birthday button that he can wear throughout your entire sailing so everyone onboard can celebrate too! Also, be sure his birthday is noted on your cruise reservation so he can be recognized in the dining room the first night!
You have a great question about passports.  Although government IDs and birth certificates are acceptable for a closed-loop cruise (beginning and ending in a U.S. home port), Disney Cruise Line strongly recommends passports for all Guests.  If an unexpected emergency does occur, passports are required to fly home from a foreign port of call.  This is unlikely, but the peace of mind is worth the extra expense in my opinion.  Have a look over the Passport Information on the Disney Cruise Line website so you can make the best decision for your family.
I'm glad you stopped by with your question, Chris.  If you think of anything else, please let me know.  I'm always happy to help!
    Have a magical day!
