Hi there, Chantel, and welcome back to planDisney! We love to see our guests return to ask us more questions.
Years ago, my daughter was a competitive cheerleader, too! We spent many December weekends in Orlando for National Competitions, with our days full of stunting, practicing, and hairstyling. We were not fortunate enough to have any of our competitions at Walt Disney World, but I am SO happy that you do!
When you have a resort room booked on the Walt Disney World property, you can access ALL the transportation options offered. So, yes, you can absolutely use the buses, but you can also ride a boat, monorail, or Skyliner, too! We even had a resort stay one year before a Disney Cruise Line vacation, and we just spent a day touring resorts and riding different forms of transportation.
Depending on where you are staying, you might want to try and make your way to one of the
Skyliner resorts – Disney’s Art of Animation, Disney’s Pop Century, Disney’s Riviera Resort, or Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. From that starting point, make your way to the Skyliner station and take a ride! The Skyliner full line runs between EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
If you take a bus to Magic Kingdom, you can then transfer to either the monorail to visit Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, or Disney’s Contemporary Resort. You can also take a boat from Magic Kingdom to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge, where I highly recommend getting a bite to eat at
Whispering Canyon Café (the bison burger is amazing!).
Should you want to take a leisurely boat ride, start at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and ride to Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s Boardwalk Inn. You can disembark at any of these resorts to walk around and take in the atmosphere. If you can secure a reservation at
Beaches & Cream Soda Shop, DO IT! The ice cream is really good.
I hope you have a fantastic February visit to Walt Disney World, and the best of luck to your daughter and her team!
Happy Traveling (& Touring),
Tracy
