Hi Richard!
Welcome back to planDisney!
Disney’s Old Key West Resort is a hidden gem, and one of my family’s favorite Disney Vacation Club Resorts. I love the large rooms, laid-back atmosphere, and this resort offers some delicious dining options. If you haven’t already, consider making an
Advance Dining Reservation at
Olivia’s Cafe. Their Southernmost Buttermilk Chicken is amazing! And make sure to order a piece of their famous Key Lime Pie for that perfectly sweet and tart finish to the meal. You can even get a piece to-go! We also enjoy a visit to the
Gurgling Suitcase Libations & Spirits for a beverage or appetizer to enjoy by the pool. Back during prohibition, people used to try to smuggle alcohol into Key West from Cuba by packing it in their suitcases. Customs agents would lift the suitcase and listen for "gurgling" in an attempt to find those hidden bottles, hence the name of this fun dining location!
After dinner, head on over to
Disney Springs to walk off that chicken and do some shopping, Richard! Unfortunately, the boat transportation to Disney Springs has not resumed. There is a complimentary bus service, or if you want to get those steps in, there is a walking path. It is approximately a 30-minute walk or 1.3 miles from the Hospitality House at Disney’s Old Key West Resort to Disney Springs.
At this point, Disney has announced when the boats will resume. I recommend checking the
Disney Water Transportation webpage for updates before your visit for the most up-to-date information.
I hope this information helps as you plan your visit, Richard. Please let me know what additional questions I can help you with!
Happy Planning!
