    Do blocks of rooms ever "open up"? I'm trying to book for first week October 2014 and I'm finding many of the standard rooms in the deluxe resorts (AKL, Contemporary) are "unavailable". I find this surprising

    Hi, Mark!  The first week in October is pretty busy, as the wildly popular EPCOT International Food and Wine Festival makes it's 2013 debut on September 27th.  RunDisney also has a 10 mile race scheduled the weekend of October 4-5, so racers may come in early or stay late to enjoy the other festivities surrounding the Food and Wine Festival.

    While there is always a chance that rooms will become available, either through cancellations or when rooms begin to be assigned, it is possible there are no standard rooms available at this really busy time at Walt Disney World.
