Hiya Carol,
Thanks for stopping back at planDisney with this fantastic question.
Walt Disney World Resort's four theme parks are so amazing, that Guests often forget there are two equally awesome water parks to enjoy. Both
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon and
Disney's Blizzard Beach are a perfect place to relax and recharge, and you cannot go wrong with either choice.
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is themed around the idea that a typhoon has struck this tropical location, leaving Miss Tilly (the water park's icon shrimp boat), stuck on top of an erupting geyser, while fishing gear, surfboards and boats have been "tossed" about the park. It is home to one of the largest outdoor wave pools, plenty of family friendly water and tube slides, and the most amazing lazy river that winds and stretches throughout beautiful trees, waterfalls and misting screens. The water park is open year round, except for a short period of time in fall/winter so be sure to check the operating calendar for the dates of your visit.
Disney's Blizzard Beach has been temporarily closed as it underwent refurbishment, but I was thrilled to recently hear it will be re-opening in mid November. Guests visiting this water park are treated to a freak snow storm that left behind Florida's very own ski resort, which now appears to be melting in the Florida sun. My boys find the waterslides at this park a little more in the thrill category, but there are plenty of options for the younger crowd. And, while I have yet to see it in person, I understand the recent refurbishments includes changing the children's area to a "Frozen" theme. I cannot wait to see the changes!
Personally I love both water parks for different reasons - Disney's Blizzard Beach is our choice if we are looking for some thrilling waterslide adventures, but if we prefer to spend the day enjoying a tropical setting and a long, leisurely float down a lazy river, then Disney's Typhoon Lagoon is where we head. The great news is if you choose to upgrade your standard theme park admission ticket with either a
Water Park and Sports Option or the Park Hopper Plus option, you would have the option to visit both water parks during your visit.
I hope this information will help you schedule some splashin' good times, and don't forget the sunscreen. That Florida sun sneaks up on you quickly. If I can help with any additional questions, please stop back and
see me.
Hope to see ya real soon,
Margaret
