    The birthday promotion where you can get a free ticket or other goodie on your birthday, is that only for this calander year?

    Currently, yes. Disney does have some history of extending themed promotions. For example, the Year of a Million Dreams promotion ended up lasting more than two years. There is no information at all about the "Free on Your Birthday" being extended past 2009, but I wouldn't be totally shocked if it were extended. However, for planning purposes, you should assume that "Free on Your Birthday" will be over at the end of December.
