    What is the big hype about Character breakfasts? I mean in the most curious way because I am researching like crazy trying to make the best dining plans and keep coming across mainly breakfast Character meals and was wondering if I was missing something?

    Tiffany,

    There is no doubt that Character meals are an interesting concept. Here is a quick breakdown;

    How does it work?
    You go to your restaurant, get seated, and start dining. At some point in the meal the characters make their way, one-by-one, to your table. They follow a prescribed route through the dining areas, so you know who is coming, and how many tables they have to hit before getting to you. There are usually 5 or so characters, typically with a common theme tying them together (like Mickey Mouse and friends, or the Princesses). Once they arrive, you can have them sign an autograph book, take a picture with you, and generally share a few minutes with them. Then they are off to the next table.

    What is the big deal?
    Why are these so popular? Well, you get to meet a bunch of characters at once. No standing in line at the park, or trying to find where they are, and when. They are served to your table on a silver platter (sorry for the dining pun, but I could not resist). They are also a great way to make a table service meal more entertaining for kids.

    Are they right for me?
    Not if you don't care to meet the characters. However they are right for you if you want to have a meet-and-greet with a particular cast of characters, and if you have kids that are dying to spend time with Mickey Mouse.

    What do I do?
    When it is my wife and I, we don't go to any. When we have our girls, we go to one, maybe two. They can get character burn out if we do more. But they enjoy the personal time with the characters, the general buzz of the establishment, and the chance to fill a bunch of their autograph book pages.

    I hope that this has addressed your questions. Write me back if you have any follow-up questions, or want some recommendations.

    Have a magical (and delicious) vacation!
