Hi Jennifer! Walt Disney World is a fantastic place to celebrate a birthday, and when you let the restaurants there know that you're celebrating a special occasion, you'll often receive a surprise dessert with a candle. Between the Liberty Tree Tavern and The Plaza restaurant, I recommend that you choose the one with food that appeals most to your husband. The Plaza serves sandwiches, burgers, salads, and most importantly, ice cream! The setting is quite casual and relaxed, and the prices are surprisingly similar to those of the counter-service restaurants. The Liberty Tree Tavern is also quite family-friendly, but the atmosphere is a tad less casual than The Plaza. The dinner menu at Liberty Tree resembles Thanksgiving dinner -- turkey, beef, ham, mashed potatoes, vegetables, macaroni and cheese, and apple crisp are served family-style. Because the atmosphere and food there are a little more formal than The Plaza, I'd lean toward choosing Liberty Tree for a birthday celebration over The Plaza, but either would be a great choice.
Another fun restaurant for a birthday celebration is
'Ohana in The Polynesian, which is just a quick monorail ride from the Magic Kingdom. Grilled meats, vegetables, wings, and noodles are served family-style here, and an entertainer acknowledges birthdays and amuses the kids with limbo and coconut races during the meal. Reservations can be tough to come by though, so if you think your husband would enjoy a meal there, book it right away.
Be sure to request a Birthday button for your husband from Guest Services so that everyone will know that he's celebrating! Come visit us again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions! We'd love to help!
