Hi Beth, We are planning a trip of 5 in Nov. Children 7, 4, and 2. We are thinking of staying at the Wilderness Lodge. Will the rooms be big enough? Also, how is transportation to the parks? Thanks for your help, Jenn.

    Hi Jenn,

Thanks for asking me about Wilderness Lodge.  I love the feel when you stay at the Lodge as you do not feel like you are in Florida but more like Canada and the back country.

Though the standard rooms at the Wilderness Lodge are not specifically designed for families of five, you should have enough space.  The Wilderness Lodge does offer Deluxe Guest Rooms which hold up to six people. This may be an option for you.  I have only stayed in the Standard so I can not advise you how much additional space you would have.

As for transportation, it has gotten better.  The boats which will take you to Magic Kingdom can accomodate your stroller without it having to be collapsed which is a nice feature when you have sleeping children.  For the other parks, you will be on the bus.  At one time, you used to stop at Fort Wilderness Campground prior to returning to the Lodge at night.  Now you can come straight home.

You also have a wonderful pool to use and the slide is not as wild as some of the other pools.  The cool feature about the main pool is that on one side the force of the water is so great, you feel like a salmon swimming up river.  The water from this pool originates in the Lodge which is unique as well.

You can also ask if you can raise the flag during your stay.  I might keep this a secret from my children as only one family can do it a day and it is tough to get.  However, they do have a great activity available at the front desk.  It is a list of hidden Mickeys throughout the resort which you have to discover.

I highly recommend one meal-even if it only dessert-at Whispering Canyon.  It is a lot of fun and they have Lincoln Logs in the waiting area to entertain the children. (During check-in you may want to have your children wait there.)

I hope these tips will make your stay more magical.  Let me know if you have any other questions.

    Enjoy your trip!
    Beth
