Best way to get to and from Disney World to Port Canaveral? We have 5 people - 2 adults, 3 kids (1 infant)...having a hard time swallowing the $79/per person fee for the Disney shuttle....is it worth it instead of private transport? what are the benefits?

Welcome back aboard the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Kate!

As the ball drops in Times Square, you will be in the final days of your own countdown to your Disney cruise.  A high seas adventure with Captain Mickey is an exciting way to start the new year!  I love that you are kicking off your magical getaway with a stay at Walt Disney World Resort.  When sailing out of Port Canaveral, I can't help myself but sneak a visit to the house of mouse as well!

I have used three different methods over the years to travel between Walt Disney World Resort and Port Canaveral: Disney Cruise Line ground transportation, private car service and a rental car.  All three offer different benefits!  I like using Disney Cruise Line ground transportation when I just want to add everything to my cruise fare and let a Vacation Planning Specialist take care of transportation details for me.  My favorite benefit of this option is that Disney Cruise Line will pick up your luggage at your Walt Disney World Resort hotel room and it will magically appear again onboard in your stateroom!

When I traveled with my extended family, a private transfer with a local car service was a more cost efficient way for us to get to Port Canaveral.  A simple internet search will return many options in the area, including Disney's Minnie Van service supported by Lyft, which offers service to Port Canaveral

You can also rent a vehicle if you'd like flexibility as to what time you arrive at the cruise terminal.  We have also used this option to leave early and spend the morning at the beach before boarding the ship.  It is really convenient to rent a vehicle from the Car Care Center just outside of Magic Kingdom!

Cruise back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel if you have any additional questions before you set your GPS for the coast!
