Hey Paola!
Welcome back to the Disney Parks Mom Panel! It sounds like you are planning a fabulous Walt Disney World vacation.
Your family is going to love
Mickey's Backyard BBQ. It is really a fun experience for all ages. It takes place at the Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort so no park passes will be needed.
To get from Disney's Port Orleans - Riverside Resort to Fort Wilderness you have a couple of options. The first, and the quickest, is to take a cab. Most cab rides within Walt Disney World property are $20 or less. By cab, the trip could take as long as 30 minutes depending on how long you have to wait for the cab to arrive.
The second option is via Disney Bus Transportation. Since you are traveling between two resort you will hop on any bus bound for a theme park then transfer to the Fort Wilderness bus. According to the 'Transportation Wizard' on ourlaughingplace.com the best option is to get a bus headed to Epcot then make the transfer. However, any theme park bus will work.
If you do decide to take Disney Bus Transportation, you will want to allow for at least 1 1/2 hours. If you do get there early, mosey on over to the
Tri-Circle-D Ranch where you can explore the stables which house the horses you see in the Magic Kingdom.
I hope this helps your planning. If you have any other questions, please come back and see me.
Wishing you a magical vacation and a pixie-dusted day!
