How can I best do Disney World in one day for two adults? We are only interested in adult rides but only have one day to do it.

Welcome to planDisney, Patsy! We don’t have much time before you arrive at The Most Magical Place On Earth, so let’s jump right in!

Knowing how to access the more popular attractions is essential to see as much of Disney World as possible in one day. Aside from the standard queue, you can utilize Virtual Queues, Lightning Lanes via Disney Genie+, and Individual Lightning Lanes. Combining these dramatically increases your capacity to experience as many attractions as possible. Here is a quick synopsis:

    • Virtual Queues, accessible through your My Disney Experience App, allow Guests to enjoy the rest of the park while they “wait.” TRON Lightcycle / Run in the Magic Kingdom and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT utilize Virtual Queues, so there is no standby. Joining a Virtual Queue is free, can be requested at 7:00 AM and/or 1:00 PM (with certain restrictions), are limited in availability, and does not guarantee the ability to experience the ride.
    • Genie+ Service is purchased daily (price fluctuates by day and park) and allows Guests to use Lightning Lane entrances at select attractions/experiences. Guests that purchase Genie+ can make one Lightning Lane selection at a time, starting at 7 AM. Once redeemed, you can book another, or if two hours have passed since your last selection, you can book another. These selections are for specific attractions/experiences at a particular time.
    • Individual Lightning Lanes are for select attractions and do not require the Guest to pay for Genie+; they are considered Á La Carte purchases. To purchase, open your My Disney Experience App, click the menu icon (three horizontal lines in the bottom corner), then “LL Rides, Shows & Lightning Lane Entry,” followed by “Tip Board.” Then, select an Individual Lightning Lane and follow the prompts to purchase.

With that out of the way, start planning by checking the Hours & Events Calendar to see what the hours are for each park. As a Guest of a Disney Resorts Collection hotel, you have access to Early Theme Park Entry, which is crucial. My family and I enjoyed a one-day visit earlier this year, and we planned our day in blocks of time. For example, if Early Entry is 7:30 AM at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, and Magic Kingdom is the last park to close at 11 PM, I'd suggest breaking up your day into 3.5-hour blocks (with some room for traveling built-in). Dedicate the first block of time to the park with the earliest opening time, hit two or three attractions, and then move on to the next park, and so on, ending the evening at the park with the latest hours.

With ways to access the attractions and an outline of how to structure your day, you should research the Attractions and Entertainment site to identify the rides most appealing to you at each park. Be sure to download the My Disney Experience app on your mobile device to use the free Disney Genie service to help map out your day and the Tip Board to view estimated wait times.

Or, you can always check if a VIP Tour is available through Guest Relations. A VIP Tour Guide will be with you throughout your day, help you through Lightning Lane entrances, and drive you from park to park! How cool? This is a lot to take in, Patsy, so if you have any follow-up questions, let me know!
