Ahoy, Gary!
Thanks so much for reaching out to planDisney. I’m happy to help you plan your upcoming Disney Cruise. It’s going to be here before you know it!
I completely understand how discouraging it can feel to see shore excursions and onboard activities already sold out when your booking window opens, especially for first-time cruisers or Silver Castaway Club members. Trust me, I’ve been in your shoes, and I’ve got a few tips that might help!
First, head to the
Port Adventures Desk or
Guest Services as soon as you board the ship. Some guests cancel at the last minute, and spots can open up, especially for popular experiences like Port Adventures, spa treatments, or Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. You can also ask to be added to a waitlist for sold-out options, including adult-exclusive dining like Palo brunch (my personal favorite). These cancellations often happen within a few days of sailing when bookings become non-refundable, so it’s worth checking early and often.
Next, keep an eye on the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. Check it daily before and during your cruise. New slots sometimes pop up if more availability is added or if someone cancels. You never know when a spot might open!
If you’re open to alternatives, consider researching reputable third-party excursion providers. While I personally love the convenience and reliability of
Disney’s Port Adventures, many guests choose independent options and have great experiences. Just be mindful...if you’re not back to the ship on time, it won’t wait, so always allow extra time. Joining a Facebook group for your specific sailing can be a goldmine for excursion tips and trusted recommendations. (just note that excursions on Castaway Cay are almost always Disney-exclusive since it’s a private island).
And don’t forget, you can still have a magical time onboard even without pre-booked excursions. Enjoy fun activities like the AquaMouse (on the Wish, Treasure, or Destiny), poolside lounging, themed trivia, bingo, and character meet-and-greets, all of which are listed in the Navigator app and usually don’t require advance reservations. If an excursion doesn’t work out, consider exploring ports on your own by walking to local shops or taking a quick taxi to the beach. It’s budget-friendly and super flexible!
I hope this helps ease your mind, Gary! There’s so much magic waiting for you onboard and ashore. Wishing you smooth sailing and unforgettable adventures!
