Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Diane! New Orleans is my hometown, and I'm considering getting a tee shirt made for myself that says, "Will run for beignets!" What a great runDisney costume that would be, and I'm sure Princess Tiana would approve!
The "Beignet Dash" Fun Run is one of Walt Disney World's best-kept secrets, and it's held every Sunday at
Disney's Port Orleans Resort - French Quarter. Check-in starts at 7:30 a.m. for the 1.5-mile race that begins at 8:00 a.m. For a small fee, participants get three beignets from
Sassagoula Floatworks at the end of the race. Plus, there's a Mardi Gras bead medal to commemorate the event. Since Disney does not publish information about the Fun Runs on their website, the best way to find out is by googling the resort's activity calendar. The one I found was for March 2019, so try checking for the May calendar as you get closer to your trip.
If you feel like spending more time at the resort after your run, try one of the relaxing
Horse-Drawn Carriage Rides along the Sassagoula River. If you're there in the evening, stop by the
River Roost Lounge located at Port Orleans Riverside for a classic New Orleans Hurricane cocktail and some entertainment by the legendary
Yehaa Bob.
Beign-yay to you, Diane, for wanting to participate in this Fun Run! I Hope your trip is sprinkled with pixie dust (and some powdered sugar)!
