I am in the beginning process of planning our next Disney vacation! It will be the first trip for my parents/sister and nephew! I want it to be the best vacation ever! Weather wise which time would be better, end of Oct 2010 or first of March 2011?

Hi, Alissa!  How exciting to be planning someone's first trip!  It's one of my favorite things to do!

I would always choose October over March - although I like the March weather as well.  The thing that makes me hesitate on March is spring break.  For some colleges and southern schools, the spring break can start as early as late February, and by March, even more schools are taking their spring break.  I'd much rather be at Walt Disney World in October, without worrying about spring break crowds or high school senior trips.

Also, if this is the first trip for your parents and nephew, there are two events in October that my family considers must sees!  The grown ups love the International Food and Wine Festival.  There are all sorts of demonstrations, foods to try, and special dining experiences.  For the young and young at heart, you can purchase tickets to Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.  Everyone can dress up and trick or treat while enjoying the rides and excitement of the Magic Kingdom.  There are special Halloween activities, parade and fireworks, and my whole family loves this event.

Weather wise, October tends to be a bit warmer and dryer.  March is a bit cooler and wetter.  I have been in Orlando in October when we've needed coats, but for the most part, you'll find temperatures in the low to mid-80s, whereas March temps are usually peaking out in the mid-70's.

Whenever you go, have a great time!
