I am a bariatric surgery patient and therefore restricted to very small meals. Do the Disney restaraunt make any concessions for bariatric patients like ordering smaller portions or charging the kids price? Specifically interested in Garden Grill at Epcot.

    Hi, Rebecca!  Welcome to Loser-ville!

I am five years post-op from gastric bypass surgery, and I've had many dining experiences at Walt Disney World - including when I was still on a liquid diet!  The first thing I want to say is how AWESOME everyone was at the restaurants we visited!  I hope you have a similar experience, because they were so willing to work with me.

Each restaurant varies, so when you make your dining reservations, you can have them note special dietary needs.  In some cases, you can speak with a chef ahead of time - or even right before you order - and they can help you to have a fabulous dining experience, despite your gastrically altered insides.

If your surgeon provides a card that identifies you as a bariatric patient, have it with you.  Some locations asked me for a card, but my doctor didn't have one.  I found one online that I was able to print out and have him sign.

At many of the buffets - including the Garden Grill at EPCOT - they offered me the child's price for my meal. Most of my experiences with the buffets have been that they offer the child's price.  As for table service restaurants, again, the chef will often come out and work with you, but I found that I could usually just split a meal with my husband or my oldest daughter, or I could make a meal just from soup or an appetizer.  Because some of us can eat various things at different times, I've had them adapt entrees specifically for me, and that has also worked out awesome!

Congratulations and good luck on your journey!  I'm right here with advice for restaurants and meals that you should be able to enjoy on your upcoming vacation!
