I will be attending a conference at the Disney Contemporary Resort, but we are staying offsite due to cost and non-Disney interest . Where is the best place to catch the monorail from offsite? Do you have to use a pass to use the Monorail?

You do not need a pass to use the monorail, or any Disney transportation.

The monorail (actually there are two lines) only stops in a few places: Epcot, the Magic Kingdom, the Transportation and Ticket Center (TTC), the Grand Floridian, the Contemporary, and the Polynesian. Not knowing where you're staying, it's hard for me to recommend where would be the closest stop for you. Assuming you want to visit the Magic Kingdom, the only real place for you to get on the monorail would be the Transportation and Ticket Center, because you won't be able to park long-term at the hotels if you are not a guest there. All Magic Kingdom parking is really at the TTC.

Just to make sure you understand, the monorail is a very cool part of the Disney transportation system, but it is by no means the only part. Actually, most people get most places on Disney property using buses. Also, a boat or walking might be your best way to get from place to place. If you want specific instructions on how to get somewhere, write us back and we'll be able happy to help.
