Greetings, Randy! It looks like you're in the middle of the
Walt Disney World Resort magic, but you might be packing your bags to head home. I know those conflicting feelings well: satisfaction that you've enjoyed a fabulous vacation but sadness that it has to end. I don't blame you for wanting to extend your time in the fabulous "Disney Bubble," so let's look at your options.
I recently asked for a late checkout at Disney's Pop Century Resort by calling from the telephone in my room. I was connected to a Guest Relations Cast Member who checked with the "Mousekeeping" staff and returned with good news - I could extend my stay by 60 minutes. I got a little planDisney work accomplished before vacating my room and traveling home.
Last month, I was staying at the
Cabins at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort and called from my cabin with the same request. The response was that the cabins were fully booked, so they needed time to clean and prepare them for incoming guests. My
checkout time remained the same, 11:00 AM. I think granting late checkouts has more to do with occupancy and staffing than length of stay.
With all that being said, my husband's philosophy is sound: "If you don't ask, then you already know the answer." I suggest you call from your room or stop by the Front Desk at
Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa as soon as possible. If a specific situation calls for remaining in your room a bit longer, explain that to the Cast Members. While there's no guarantee they'll grant your request, I've found they will do their best.
If a later checkout is unavailable, the main lobby at this resort is a phenomenal spot to relax or shop. You have full use of the
amenities on your checkout day, so you could even head to the pool or grab a bite at the
Grand Floridian Cafe until you depart.
Bell Services will gladly hold your luggage for you, too. I'm wishing on a star you get to enjoy every last second of pixie dust!
Randy, I hope you've had a fantastic time during your visit. Please travel safely and feel free to
stop by planDisney anytime!
Magic awaits,
Elaine
