We are arriving at Old Key west in November and were hoping that the boat rentals would be available by that time. Is there any estimate as to when this experience will return? it is the perfect way to have fun, enjoy some Disney water magic and be safe

    Hello Kathy!

Welcome back to planDisney! It seems that in the age of COVID-19 we are all looking for those fun outdoor activities that we can enjoy with a bit of increased safety. I agree that renting a boat would certainly fall into that category. While I don’t know what the status of things will be in November, (Mickey is a good secret keeper) I can give you an idea of what things are like now.

Guest boat rentals at Disney’s Old Key West Resort actually stopped several years ago before the pandemic. So I’m fairly confident in saying that won’t be coming back to Disney’s Old Key West Resort since it is unrelated to the pandemic shut-down. While many other Disney Resort Collection Hotels typically do have motorized boat rental for Guests, this is not something that has returned yet, and no reopening date has been given.

There are small pontoon boats parked at Disney’s Old Key West that you may see, but those boats are for fishing excursions. Select fishing excursions have returned to the Walt Disney World Resort, and while they are not available yet from Disney’s Old Key West Resort, if this was something you would be interested in, several other Disney Resort Collection Hotels are offering them!

Many Guests are also curious to know when the water taxi service to Disney Springs will resume, and unfortunately, I have the same answer which is that no reopening date has been announced. I have heard some rumors that Guests at the resort have seen the water taxis on the water with boat captains practicing their skills. While this may be for something completely unrelated, many are hoping this is a sign that the service will be returning soon. We really just need to wait and see.

One more option for you, Kathy! If an evening on a boat sounds like something your family would enjoy, have you considered a specialty fireworks cruise? While there would be a captain on board with you, these cruises can host up to 10 of your Guests and you’d have a private, open water view of one of the nighttime spectaculars. It’s a great way to enjoy the show without the crowds!

Keep checking the webpages I have linked for you within this answer. As things return, those webpages should be updated with reopening information. Sending you pixie dust for the perfect boat excursion!
