Arriving in 8 days!!! We have ADRs for SOA on arrival day. The current forecast is 60% chance of thunderstorms. I am worried that the show maybe canceled. Would you suggest I make other arrangements? How far in advance would they cancel the show? Thanks!

Hi, Jessica!  Because of its geographical location, the Central Florida area is prone to daily showers well into the fall.  For the most part, these showers occur in the mid-afternoon, usually at the peak of the heat and humidity for the day.  They also tend to be very fast moving, and there are times when we've gone into an attraction without a cloud in the sky, and come out to find there had been a pretty significant downpour of rain.

Having said that, Walt Disney World pays particular attention to the weather forecast.  While most of the luau area is covered, the performance stage is not, and rain would be very dangerous for the performers.  You can talk to a cast member the morning of to see what the daily forecast is, but they will provide as much notice as possible if the show has to be cancelled.  As the forecast can change hour by hour, they try not to cancel too soon.

So, here's the thing.  If you are on the Disney Dining Plan, it can be tough to find a way to use the two table service credits the Spirit of Aloha show takes.  If you make a reservation in advance, and cancel at the last minute, you may be charged a cancellation fee of $10 per person.  I think if it was up to me, I would take my chances and hope the show goes on as scheduled.  With the many dining options, you can usually find something that you can go to at the last minute.

I am sending you virtual pixie dust for a rain free evening, but whatever happens, I hope you have a wonderful time!
