How do you arrange to have a disney character tell your child they are going to disney world?

    Hi Debra,

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel. It sounds like you are looking for a super fun way to announce your upcoming trip to the kiddos. I remember the first time we took our oldest set to the ‘World. We surprised them on Christmas Eve at the airport when instead of getting on a plane to visit my family in Washington, D.C., we got on a flight to Orlando. They were so shocked that it didn’t register for a few minutes!

Unfortunately, Walt Disney World no longer participates in a Character call program. If you are sailing on a Disney Cruise, Mickey & Minnie will happily schedule a call (we did this for the littles this Christmas to announce they were leaving on a cruise the next day!). My dEAR friend and fellow panelist, Crystal, had a fantastic suggestion to use a countdown chain that the kiddos can make at home. We’ve also done homemade gifts similar to the Countdown to Fun packages that used to be sold by Disney. The boxes have fun clues like shirts, pajamas, autograph books, etc. that help build up the excitement of the trip!

If your kids are old enough and have access to the My Disney Experience app, there is a countdown clock on there once you link your reservation. Our little ones are five and seven, so we use the clock to help teach them how to tell time and read their numbers. It just goes to show that Mickey is not only fantastic on vacation, but he’s a great teacher too!

Debra, if you have any other questions, please don’t hesitate to come back. ChEARs to a magical vacation.
