Hello Emma,
Thanks for bringing your question to planDisney. We're always happy to help ensure guests get the most accurate information for their vacation plans.
Changes to the
Disability Access Service (DAS) were recently announced and will go into effect at
Walt Disney World Resort on May 20, 2024. I know that many guests feel uneasy about these changes, but I'm confident the whole experience will prove to be seamless once it fully rolls out.
Based on the latest information, guests from outside the US will complete the registration process with a member of the Disability Services team via virtual chat upon arrival.
Guest Relations Cast Members will no longer be part of this team but they will be able to provide a device for you to complete the virtual chat process if you won't have one available for your visit.
During the chat, specially trained Cast Members will review your party's needs and assist in determining eligibility and the appropriate accommodations. If your group does not qualify for DAS alternate accommodations will be discussed. Rest assured that
Walt Disney World Resort is dedicated to providing an inclusive environment and many programs are available to help guests have a safe and comfortable visit.
As planDisney panelists, we'll be learning right alongside guests once these changes go into effect. I'm sure we'll see chatter across social media when this begins, but know that each virtual chat will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Just like guests, no two disabilities are the same, but I'm eager to see how these changes will have a positive impact on the guest experience.
I hope this puts you at ease, Emma. If we can answer any additional questions as you prepare for your visit please don't hesitate to come back and let us know.
Magic and memories,
Amy
