Hi, Sheri! Several yEARs ago, we stayed in a Savanna View room at
Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, and one evening we saw three giraffes laying down in the grass just off our balcony. It was the highlight of our trip! A Cast Member at the resort told us that giraffes sleep less than two hours a day- I guess they don't need the extra rest like we do after a day in the Parks! Even if you're not staying at the resort, stop by the Uzima Overlook past the pool right around sunset for a chance to look at the animals through some
Night Vision Goggles.
At Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park, your best chance to see giraffes is on the
Kilimanjaro Safaris which is set on the Harambe Wildlife Reserve. While you won't get to pet the giraffes, sometimes they will come close to the vehicle. Keep a lookout for Jabari (meaning "brave one") who was born in January. Some lucky Guests got to witness his live birth while riding on this attraction!
If you're up for a splurge-worthy experience, consider booking the three hour
Wild Africa Trek during your trip. During this VIP experience, the guides can pull the truck off the road for substantial periods of time when animals are spotted, allowing Guests to get some excellent photo opportunities with the animals.
Sheri, one thing you'll need for your giraffe selfie is a pair of Minnie Bow Giraffe Print Ears (you can get them at multiple places on property, including
Island Mercantile)!
