Hi Brandy,
Thanks for coming to the Disney Parks Moms Panel to submit your question. I'm going to assume your child has Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) since you didn't specify. With the exception of the insulin, the advice I would give you applies to both Type 1 and Type 2, but clearly the medical need is more immediate with T1D.
First off, please ensure that your resort room, whether on or off property, has a
refrigerator for your insulin. You may also request a sharps container at check-in if you are staying in a Walt Disney World Resort hotel.
Next, let's talk snacks. To fight low blood sugar, you will need snacks with you at all times. I suggest either bringing more than you think you'll need or ordering more than you'll need; there are multiple businesses that can bring food right to the check in desk of your resort. You can bring food, drinks, and snacks into all theme parks on Walt Disney World property (no glass containers). There are sharps containers in some public restrooms throughout all parks, so this may also help you with disposal. All First Aid stations have sharps collectors as well and can provide cold storage if needed at no charge. You may speak with the Chef at any restaurant to ask about the menu and substitutions-ask your server or Cast Member and they will bring the Chef out to speak with you.
Lastly, preparing for the day. Pack your bag with twice the amount of supplies that you think you'll need. This includes insulin, syringes, test strips, snacks and drinks. Check the My Disney Experience Mobile App for the location of the
First Aid station. Notify any Cast Member if you have an immediate need for assistance.
Brandy, I hope this answers your questions. Have a magical vacation!
Best Wishes,
Amy S.
