hi anna,i recently had gastric bypass surgery(march 19th)and will be visiting disney for 10 days aug 5th w/5 yr grd how did you find the char meals i'm planning 2 a day.do you mention it when booking your reservations?

Hi, Laura!  Welcome to "Loserville"!  I hope everything goes well following your recent surgery!

If you want to discuss your dietary requirements with the chef prior to your dining experiences, you should note on your advanced dining reservations that you have very specific dietary needs.  As long as you make your request 48 hours in advance, they can usually work with you.

Many of the character meals are buffets, and you should be able to find things you can eat, but talk to the manager when you arrive about the possibility of paying a child's price.  At nearly three years post-op, I can definitely eat an adult sized meal, but at only five months out, you may not be able to justify the cost of an adult buffet meal.  Be prepared with a card from your surgeon requesting their understanding, and if your surgeon doesn't prove the cards, you can find them online and print them yourself.  Most of the restaurants are very good about working with you.

I always advise friends and relatives who have had gastric bypass surgery to try and avoid the children's menu.  You typically find kid friendly fare, much of which is not really good for you if you're not gastrically altered, and definitely not good for you if you are!

Good luck, and if you can, let me know how you do as you lose weight!
