Hi, Anna. I read in one of your answers that you are insulin dependent. My 6yr. old DD is on an insulin pump. What info. can you give about carb counting at WDW? We are most worried about desserts (she doesn't want to miss out) and sugar-free drinks.Ideas?

Hi, Rebecca.  Big hugs to you for being such a great mom and doing everything to make your little princess' Walt Disney World vacation so magical!

My very best advice to you is to decide in advance which restaurants you would like to eat in, and when you call to make your advanced dining reservations, have them note on your reservation that your child is diabetic.  Then, when you are within a few days of your vacation (at least 72 hours before), contact the restaurants directly to see what accommodations can be made.  They can discuss carb counts with you and offer suggestions for desserts.  I cannot predict what your daughter's experience will be like, but I always found for me that the extra exercise kept my sugars very well in check, and I was sometimes able to splurge a little bit by sharing some dessert with my husband or daughters.

You will find water and sugar free sodas everywhere.  Some Walt Disney World locations also have Minute Maid Light Lemonade, which has 1 gram of carbs and less than 1 gram of sugars.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!
