Hi Anna! I will be 4 months post of. Surgery is June 1 and our trip is Nov 3-11. Will I need to request special diet or will I be able to choose from the regular menu (obviously smaller portion an healthier choices) Will carry water and the protein mix too

Hi, Tara!  Every doctor is different with regard to your post-op regimen.  By four months, I was on regular food, but you still may want to talk to the chefs at the restaurants.  Once you've been gastrically altered, protein is your very best friend, so they may be able to adapt a meal to make it heavy on the proteins.  I even had a chef make me a pasta dish without the pasta on one of my Walt Disney World trips post-op.

For the most part, you should be able to browse the menu and find something, but if you don't see something you think you can safely eat, you can ask for something else.  You'll learn once you have your surgery and start eating real food again that some things are more tolerable than others, and you will want to stick with the things you know you can eat.  I speak from experience that it is no fun to try a new food on vacation and end up laying on a theme park bathroom floor until your stomach feels better!

Talk to your surgeon to make sure you know what his dos and donts are, browse the menus at allears.net to see what is typically on the menus at the restaurants you want to try, and go from there.

I'm so excited to have a new neighbor in Loserville!  Good luck with your upcoming surgery, and if you need me, I'm right here!
