Would like to see animals at animal kingdom resorts, staying at POP, worth the trip, dining?? Any recommendations. Go from theme park or plan day off for visit??? Never been to AK or resort, not planning AK b/c of time issues, free day with ADR @ Ohana @7pm

    Jonathan,

If you have a night where you are free for dinner, and can get a reservation, I always think it is worth the trip to the Animal Kingdom Lodge!

First off, there are three great restaurants. I love Sanaa for the exotic, yet kid-friend foods. Boma is an amazing buffet that has Indian and African-inspired selections along with safer options for picky kids. And Jiko is one of the finer signature restaurants on property. With just adults, I go for Sanaa or Jiko. With kids I start with Boma, then Sanaa.

The main lodge itself is amazing. Scenic, well themed, and with lots of areas to explore. In particular the savanna is great for viewing, even at night. There are often animal guides there who can give you amazing facts about the animals you are viewing. Note that Jiko and Boma are located in the main lodge. In the nearby Animal Kingdom Villas main building you will find Sanaa. While you do get some animal viewing, that lodge does not have as much space to explore.

BOTTOM LINE: If you have an evening where you know you don't want to go to a park, this is a great alternative for dinner and some amazing resort exploration. But only go if you have a dining reservation.

Write me back if you have any follow up questions.

    Have a magical vacation!
