Hi Amanda! You answered a ? for me about travel time from our All Star resort and I'm nervous about how much it's going to cut into our day. Since we'll have to come back for a nap once a day, would you recommend renting a car? Thanks again so much!

Hi again Jessica! Since I live within a day's drive of Walt Disney World, my family often has our car with us when we visit Disney, but we generally choose to ride the buses to the parks instead of driving. We think it's more relaxing to let Disney do the driving and we don't  find that driving saves us that much time. The buses drop you off close to the park entrance. When you drive, you park farther out and have to take a tram to the entrance. A car can be useful if you're planning to dine in several other resort hotels since traveling from one resort to another can be time-consuming. However, since Disney offers free transportation directly to the parks, I don't generally find renting a car to drive to the parks worth the money.

The 45-minute travel time estimate I gave you is the maximum you might encounter, and in most cases, your actual travel time could be much shorter. Sometimes you may have to wait 15 minutes for a bus, but other times, a bus will pull up just as you arrive at the bus stop. Sometimes your bus will stop at other All-Star resorts to pick up or drop off passengers, and other times, it will travel directly to and from the park. Some parks are closer, and thus shorter rides, than others. (Magic Kingdom is the longest.) Thus, sometimes it may be 45 minutes from the time you arrive at a bus stop until you reach your destination, but other times you may arrive within 20 minutes. I always anticipate that it will take us the maximum time, but I'm often pleasantly surprised when we arrive more quickly.

Returning to your resort for an afternoon nap will take a few hours out of your day, but everyone will be happier if they're rested, and since you're visiting during hot weather, you'll appreciate being out of the sun during the peak heat of the day.  Come visit me again at the Moms Panel if you have more questions!
