Hi I have already read something about bringing a Savi built lightsaber on a plane back to Europe. My question is: do I need to contact my airline company and buy a special carriage option? Or does it pass with the normal carry on luggage? Thanks!

Bright Suns to you, and welcome to planDisney!

We're happy to see you here with your question and appreciate you stopping by! Are you planning for a visit to the Disneyland Resort? We always love helping our overseas Guests prepare for their long journey, and it would be my pleasure to assist you.

Making a handbuilt lightsaber from Savi's Workshop is one of the most unique experiences you will have while traveling through Black Spire Outpost. The Gatherers will identify Force sensitive individuals and guide them through the process of building "an elegant weapon for a more civilized age." You'll walk away with a lightsaber that's all your own and it'll be a precious memento of your trip! Now you have to get it home.

Many Guests have traveled on long haul flights with their lightsaber without having to resort to any special baggage handling options. In fact, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) here in the US even has an official website page for lightsabers, saying that "Sadly, the technology doesn't currently exist to create a real lightsaber. However, you can pack a toy lightsaber in your carry-on or checked bag. May the force be with you." How cool is that?!

The fully assembled lightsaber will measure about 43 inches in length, or just over a meter. I would recommend disassembling the component parts for your flight into a hilt and blade. The hilt may be stored with checked baggage (remove the batteries from the battery pack). The blade measures about 34.5 inches or just over 87 centimeters. It may be kept in the included carrying case and this will fit into an overhead compartment (with the hilt portion of the case folded over).

While you are on planet at Batuu, consider visiting Dok-Ondar's Den of Antiquities to pick up some accessories for your new lightsaber. I hear that he keeps kyber crystals of various colors and you never know what you're going to get. I'm always on the lookout for the rare black kyber crystal!

Hopefully, these tips will see you safely back to your home world with your new Jedi weapon! I hope that you have an epic trip to the Disneyland Resort and please return to us if you think of any more questions. We're always excited to help a fellow Jedi (unless you turn to the Dark Side).

May The Force Be With You!

Meet the Panelist: Al, California

Ahoy there from the heart of Steinbeck Country in central California! I've been visiting the Disneyland Resort since childhood and fell in love with the sense of absolute immersion that the Imagineers have achieved. My favorite attraction is Pirates of the Caribbean because where else can you go from a California day to an evening boat ride in the bayou with "salty old pirates"? I'm a veterinarian and an all-around Disney geek and enthusiast. I'd love to help you plan your next Disneyland trip! Learn More About Al
