Hey there Terry, and welcome to planDisney!
On behalf of all of the Disney couples who have gotten engaged at Walt Disney World Resort, I am happy to squash this bit of misinformation online and tell you that there is definitely no ban on proposals which continue to happen nearly every single day here. In fact, booking a
Capture Your Moment session has now become a much more common way to do it in front of
Cinderella Castle - complete with special props to mark the occasion!
I'm glad that you came here to confirm some unreliable information that you've seen on the internet that aren't from official Disney sources;
guests have been fooled by this
several times over the past year, and I've done my best to provide the most accurate information out there. After all, it is my sworn duty as one of the resident experts on all things
Disney Wedding related from engagement to honeymoon to share all of my experiences and research over the past few years and as someone who planned a surprise Disney proposal myself, here's some additional insight I can provide about planning to pop the question:
- At the current time, Disney's Fairy Tale Weddings and Honeymoons are focusing all of their excellent planning and coordination resources towards the Weddings that take place, and confirmed with me that they aren't coordinating proposals nor have engagement packages available to book right now. Instead, they can point you towards Enchanting Extras that you can book on your own to make that moment extra-special.
- I booked a special Capture Your Moment - Magic Kingdom Park session and I highly recommend asking the Disney PhotoPass Cast Members about the various items and props they have to help you capture the proposal. This may be tricky without your future spouse knowing, so it might be a good idea to pop into the Liberty Square Ticket Office (next to The Hall of Presidents) in order to tell them, or even slip them a note when you check in at least 10 minutes ahead of your reservation time.
- It's important to note that there are limited hours when these sessions can take place, and there is never any guarantee that certain spots will be available during the time of your booking. (In our experience we had a photographer and an assistant join us who helped redirect traffic, but ultimately they may not be able to make sure no one else is in the photo behind you two.) One of the best suggestions we have is booking back-to-back sessions which made a big difference in how much time we had to work with, as well as purchasing Memory Maker which gave us quick access to receive and download all of the shots they took soon afterward.
