Hi Becky,
Welcome back to planDisney! I am happy to see you stopping by with another great question.
With two teenagers that have food allergies, we have navigated dining at the Walt Disney World® Resort. Quite honestly, we love the support we have received from cast members as we try to keep our girls safe and have a good time. First things first, I never want to tell a guest what ingredients are or or not in foods because food offerings could change. The cast members on site at the dining locations during your visit will have the most up-to-date information. There are, however, other ways that my family prepares for a visit that may be helpful to you!
We have a
Special Dietary Requests team that can start to assist you
prior to arrival. We also sit down as a family and review the menus for the restaurants we plan to visit. Menus are located on the web page of each dining location. Just click on the restaurant's homepage and then click on View Menu. Be Our Guest Restaurant, for example, is one of our favorite restaurants. You can take a look at the
lunch menu. Scroll down to see allergy-friendly options. When making
advanced dining reservations, we note the allergy on the reservation (given the allergies you noted, at this time, you may have to choose other). Finally, when we get to the restaurant, we speak with the cast member who serves us and, sometimes, we also speak with the chef to confirm the foods that our girls can eat.
One of our girls has four significant food allergies - tree nuts, peanuts, shellfish, and soy. When I saw your question, I thought about her soy allergy because soy is actually in quite a few foods that we never would have suspected. Our daughter will look at the menus prior to our visit and pick out what she would like to eat and then, when we get to the restaurant, the chef can tell her if that item is a possibility. If not, they have suggested another possibility. We have been so happy with the chefs and other cast members. And, perhaps most important, our girls enjoy their food and feel safe eating!
Becky, looking at your arrival date, you have some time. So, review those menus,
email the Special Dietary Requests team at the appropriate time, and then speak with the chefs when you arrive!
Magic and memories,
Donyell
