Ahoy, Pamela!
There are so many fabulous
Port Adventure options for
Alaska! My family was fortunate to sail to the Last Frontier on the
Disney Wonder in 2015 and selecting our excursions was tough. My best tip is to pick adventures that allow you to see Alaska by land, sea and air.
As you think about your days in port, you can definitely spend time exploring Skagway, Juneau and Ketchikan on your own because they are all within walking distance. Skagway is about a 10-minute walk and is a very quaint little town with some shops and restaurants. After our Port Adventure, the tour operator did offer to drop us off in town to explore on our own since we had several hours until all aboard. In Juneau, the ship docks downtown, which isn't far from South Franklin Street. This area is busier than Skagway and is filled with shops and restaurants. The dock in Ketchikan runs right alongside the town. You can wander all around including heading over to historic Creek Street. We actually did two Port Adventures through Disney Cruise Line in Ketchikan and still had time to explore on our own. I was able to find some unique souvenirs in each port during the time on our own and get some great pictures!
Pamela, thank you for sending in your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Please let us know if we can assist you further with your plans for Alaska this summer. It's going to be a trip of a lifetime!
Have a "Wonder"ful day!
Nancy
