AKL March 20-23, for a quick long weekend for my 40th! Arriving after 7pm.Is there stuff to do for a few hours?Don't want to leave resort.Just want to get right into the magic, but still be close to"home" to get a good night sleep to make rope dro

    Happy birthday, Jennifer!

The Animal Kingdom Lodge is a wonderful place to stay for a celebration!

Several of my favorite restaurants at WDW are at the ALK. Sanaa, Boma, and Jiko are all terrific. Jiko is one of the best signature meals on property. If you can arrange it, a meal there might be a fantastic way to start the party. If you don't want a full meal, but want to unwind a little, the Victoria Falls lounge is a relaxing place to grab a drink.

The pools at the resort are open in the evening (weather permitting). You could take an evening dip in the pool or hot tub as a way to start relaxing. If you have more energy, the health club is open 24 hours.

Obviously, a big draw of AKL is the animals. There are night-vision goggles available to borrow so you can observe the creatures in their evening behaviors. Speak to the front desk about how to do this.  There is also an incredible collection of African art scattered throughout the resort. I've spent several hours walking around seeing these amazing works.

If you do decide to leave the hotel, there is lots of nightlife at Downtown Disney including shops, restaurants, movies, and bowling.

Good luck with your planning. Please let us know what else we can do to help.
