Hi Selene!
Welcome to planDisney! I’m so excited you’re setting sail on a Mediterranean cruise aboard the
Disney Dream next summer. That’s the exact itinerary I just booked, too! I’ve been doing lots of research and I’m happy to share what I’ve learned.
For cruises departing from the Port of Civitavecchia, the best airport to fly into is Fiumicino Airport (FCO), also known as Leonardo da Vinci Airport. It’s Rome’s main international airport and is located about 60 km (roughly 37 miles) from the port. The drive typically takes around 50 minutes, depending on traffic.
Disney Cruise Line offers ground transfers between FCO and the port. While prices can change, the current cost is $66 per person (ages 3 and up), and little ones under 3 ride free. You can also look into private transportation or rideshare services, but because the port is quite a distance from the city, I definitely recommend having transportation lined up ahead of time, whether you go with Disney’s transfers or a private option.
If you’re considering arriving early (which I always suggest when traveling overseas), Disney also partners with a few select hotels in Rome and offers transfers from there to the port. If you book another nearby hotel, you won’t be able to hop on the Disney transfer; they do verify reservations and will cancel the service if you’re not staying at a partner property.
As of now, for 2025 sailings, the affiliated hotels include:
• Rome Cavalieri, A Waldorf Astoria Resort
• The Tribune Hotel Roma
• Anantara Palazzo Naiadi Rome Hotel
• City Center at Anantara (Lower-Level Convention Center)
Just keep in mind that these hotel options may change for 2026, so I’d recommend checking back with Disney Cruise Line as your cruise gets closer.
Selene, I hope you have the most magical adventure at sea, and who knows, maybe we’ll pass each other on board!
Ciao for now,
Eean
