The airlines recommend a car seat be 16 inches or less - I cannot find one on the market that meets this specification. Any suggestions? My daughter will be 20 mos old and currently weighs 25lbs and is 33 ins tall.

    Hi Susan,

I am glad you are purchasing a ticket for your daughter. I always get worried about a little one on a lap of his or her parent.

Without knowing who your carrier is, all I can say is bring the car seat you use in your car with you to the airport. The carriers I looked up all say the same thing that it has to be one approved for a car and that it has to be in the window seat and not an exit row. There is no mention of size.

I always brought my car seat from home and never had an issue. Of course a smaller car seat would help it from overflowing into the next seat but you will be next to your daughter.

Finally, when you are getting ready to board the airplane and you are traveling with another adult, have him or her go first to load the seat and gear into the plane. Then you board the plane towards the end of boarding with your daughter. This allows maximum time out of the seat and burning extra energy.

    Wishing you a magical vacation!
