Ahoy! Super excited to be embarking on a Halloween on the High Seas Wish voyage in September with my teenage sons (17 and 15). How seriously do guests take the costumes? One of my guys isn't so excited about dressing up. Will we stick out?

    Ahoy there, Meaghan!

Thank you so much for sailing back to planDisney, this time with a question about costumes during Halloween on the High Seas

I have to tell you, a few years ago my family celebrated my daughter’s birthday aboard the Wish during a Halloween on the High Seas sailing, and it was completely spellbinding. The Pumpkin Tree glowing in the Grand Hall. The spooky decorations throughout the ship. And seeing Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Clarabelle Cow dressed as the Sanderson Sisters. It was spooktacular!

Now, let’s jump right into your question. In my experience, you will see Guests wearing all kinds of outfits during the cruise. Some families go all out in elaborate costumes, while others wear Halloween-themed shirts, regular cruise clothes, or no costume at all. So, if one of your teenage guys is not feeling the Halloween spirit and does not want to dress up, no worries, he will fit right in! Dressing up is completely optional, and no one will stick out.

When my family sailed, there were 19 of us. I know, a very large group! But only a handful of us dressed up for the trick-or-treating festivities, while everyone else wore their usual clothes. Regardless of who was in costume, we all had just as much fun enjoying the spooky celebrations.

For anyone who decides to dress up, be sure to look over the costume guidelines. Be sure to wear something family-friendly and in good taste. Masks may be worn while standing still at character photo locations, but they must be removed and carried while walking around the ship. In fact, that same year, my family dressed up as Hocus Pocus, and there are many photos of my husband carrying his Billy mask around. It was a riot.

Once you are onboard, keep an eye on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. It will list all the Halloween activities, entertainment, character appearances, and trick-or-treating times, so you do not miss a single frightfully fun moment!

Meaghan, I hope this helps put your mind at ease as your crew prepares to set sail. If you have any additional questions, come visit us again.

    See you real soon!
