At what age are children considered old enough to stay in the resort room while the parents are out? We are going w/ DD14, DD9, and DS5. Child care services specify 12 and under. Would Disney frown on DD14 babysitting in the room while we dined close by?

You are correct that Disney does not provide childcare options for children older than age 12. They have no official policy on when children can be left alone in their hotel rooms, or left on their own anywhere else on property. This is a personal decision left for you. When deciding whether to leave your children on their own, you should consider many factors: their maturity, their comfort with being left in an unfamiliar place, your room location, where you will be, how long you will gone, the quality of your cell phone reception, and so on.

I can tell you that some of the Moms on this Panel have left their teenage children in Disney hotel rooms, babysitting younger siblings. But only you can decide whether this is appropriate for your family.
