We're 2 adults, 2 kids aged 5 and 1, and grandmom, aged 68. Cost not so much an issue for us but it is for Grandmom, who will spend a lot of time by the pool/in her room. Are we better off in a suite or adjoining rooms? Villa will = cooking for me : - (

If you feel like Grandmom will be spending a lot of time in the room, then I would suggest a villa or suite rather than adjoining rooms. The villas have a living room area that is more homey and comfortable to relax in than a standard room that would likely just have a bed and a table.

For the last five years, we have stayed almost exclusively in villa-type rooms and I never (and let me be clear about this, NEVER) cook a meal while I am on vacation. We like the convenience of having the large refrigerator to hold my husband's two-liter bottles of Diet Coke (he's a bit of an addict) and I have used the microwave to make tea. But that's it. On the other hand, we have used the washer/dryer in the villa rooms with some regularity. Again, I'm not big on doing chores while on vacation, but with little kids there are spills and wet swimsuits, etc. The in-room laundry facilities just make dealing with that a lot easier.

I am curious though why Grandmom will be stuck at the hotel? Many seniors enjoy the touring the parks. Many of the rides are quite gentle. It would be a lovely memory for her to hold her grandchild's hand while soaring over London on Peter Pan's Flight. Even if she didn't want to go on any rides, there are plenty of shows to watch, and great people-watching too. If her mobility is an issue, you should know that there are wheelchair and EVC rentals available at the parks and that the vast majority of attractions at WDW are wheelchair accessible.
