Addicted to this panel !! My family and I want to cut down on dining costs for our upcoming trip in November as we are staying 16 days and want to bring our lunches to the parks. Any suggestions on cold meals other than sandwiches ?? Thank you so much !

    Hi Joanne,

Well let me say, that is one addiction we would encourage you to continue with. Great idea by the way, to carry lunches with you to cut back on costs.

Sandwiches are of course a great choice, but I can understand not wanting to eat ham and cheese for 16 days in a row. Of course the first suggestion is to change up the sandwich choices or types of bread you use. Make some on bagels or pitta bread. You can also bring different types of prepared salads like tuna fish or egg salad. Many of the food choices we like to bring with us are finger foods. We like to "snack" on fruit and fresh vegetables. We have carried small ziploc bags of cut up vegetables or fruit and make a mini on the go salad.

We also like to bring a variety of cheeses and crackers, chips, beef jerky, nuts, raisins, cranberries and granola bars as these items fill us up and are easy to eat on the go. There are meals to go that you can purchase from camping supply stores or sites. I have to admit I have never tried any, but I have a number of friends who think the taste is good and they are portable and do not have to be heated.

Be sure to keep any food you carry in an insulated bag with cooler packs to prevent the food from spoiling. You would certainly hate to get sick while on vacation. Hope some of these fill your tummy and do not empty your pocket book.
