Hi moms, I would like to be able to communicate with my husband when we split up. We both don't have cell phones so I was thinking of buying motorola two way radios. Do these work in the parks and are you allowed to bring them in?

I have used two way radios in the parks many times. You are certainly allowed to bring them in to the parks. It's been about two years since I used radios in the parks and technology may have improved since then, but I found them to be helpful, but not totally reliable as a communication method.

Most of the time the radios did work for us. But we did consistently have two problems. First, I found that no matter what channel we chose, there was always someone else at the parks on our line. It was confusing to decipher if it was my husband trying to reach me or some stranger trying to reach his family.  Second, Disney is loud. Well, at least many of the rides are loud. If you're trying to reach someone while they're on a ride, even something as innocuous as Buzz Lightyear, they're probably not going to hear you. With a cell phone, you can get it to vibrate to overcome this hurdle. The last time I used radios, this feature was not available.

If you don't have access to cell phones, radios would be a helpful communication tool. I would just always put a back-up plan into place too, just in case. For example, tell you husband something like, "I'll call you on the radio when I'm done shopping, but if I can't reach you at 5:00, then we'll meet at 5:15 in front of Space Mountain." That way, you'll be safe no matter what happens.
