Christmas in July is the most wonderful time of the year … well, at least until the real thing on December 25! For those of us that love the magical holiday, it’s a time when we can begin to see visions of twinkling Christmas tree lights in our heads. We can smell the sugar cookies baking in the oven, and we might even pop some popcorn and watch a favorite Christmas movie, or two! For Tabitha D., planDisney alumni, Christmas in July means the countdown is on to her favorite holiday and unwrapping her beautiful collection of ornaments from Christmases past.
As each precious ornament is unwrapped, Tabitha, and many like her are filled with nostalgia. From First Christmas ornaments to those given to her by beloved family members, Tabitha can tell you the story that goes along with each angel, star and yes, Mickey Mouse!
In 2008, Tabitha began her collection of Disney Ornaments. Like many newlyweds, Tabitha and her husband found themselves with a holiday tree covered in plain ornaments, bought in bulk. As they started their family, they also wanted to start their own traditions and with Disney as their favorite travel destination, the collection began. More than a decade later, Tabitha’s tree is home to more than 30 Disney ornaments, 20 coming directly from vacations to the Parks and the remaining 10 signifying celebrations and milestones. And if she had to pick a favorite, the shoe that represents a completed runDisney marathon would top the list.
Shantel H., current Disney Parks Moms Panelist, also recalls Christmas memories filled with a collection of Disney ornaments.
“Ever since I was a little girl, my parents would always buy a new Christmas ornament at a Disney Park, for our family tree. This tradition started off at Disneyland Resort and now that I have my own family, has been carried over to Walt Disney World Resort.”
Has all this talk of Christmas got you humming We Wish You a Merry Christmas and perhaps even baking a sugar cookie or two? Or perhaps you are reminiscing about your favorite Disney Christmas ornaments tucked away in the attic and looking forward to adding to your collection in the future. Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe at Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Days of Christmas at Disney Springs are some of the planDisney panelists favorite to pick up a new addition to their collection.
