I have a 5 yr old girl who is (unfortunately) very afraid of costumed characters (not princesses though!). Any suggestions for easing her anxiety before we visit in September?

    Hi Robert,

This is a great question!  It is funny because I know with my children, they would have one visit they were terrified of the characters, then our next trip (less than a year later) they loved them!  I think the key is being able to acknowledge their fear, and if they aren't ready..so be it!  With the popularity of the costumed characters, you would actually have to stand in a line to interact with them so it will be very easy to avoid them.

Since she loves princesses, I suggest dining at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.  It is a wonderful opportunity for your daughter to see and talk to the Princesses as well as get their autographs and take photos.  If you think that you might want to "try" another sort of character breakfast with costumed characters, it's a great way to test the waters.  In my experience, I have found that the characters are very good at recognizing when a child is afraid or anxious and they will keep their distance.

    Hope this helps!
